Call for PapersThe International Economic Law Interest Group of the European Society of International Law and the Kardinal Stefan Wyscinski University in Warsaw will jointly organize a Conference in Warsaw on June 25-27 on „Regional Integration and the World Trade Order – Synergies and Conflicts from a European Perspective“ which shall cover the following topics:
1) WTO/EU Relations
1. History, objectives and application of Article XXIV of GATT
2. EC/EU as WTO Member: institutional issues, implementation of WTO agreements, EU in the Doha Round
2) EU Trade Agreements
1. EU trade relationships with the Ukraine, the Balkans and Trans-Caucasus countries
2. New generation of Economic Partnership Agreements with former ACP countries, the Cotonou Agreement
3) Specific Issues:
1. Intellectual property, health and safety measures, consumer protection measures in EU preferential trade agreements
2. Trade remedies (anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and safeguard measures) in EU preferential trade agreements
3. Investment protection – EU and bilateral investment treaties, proposals for harmonization of standards
4. Free movement of persons – migration and immigration (third pillar issues)
Submissions including an abstract of 2 pages (500 words) maximum and a short curriculum vitae should be sent to Marek Jeźewski <m.jezewski@uksw.edu.pl> and Tobias Stoll <pstoll@gwdg.de> until 12. April 2009. There will be, eventually, 4-6 panels with three or four panellists each. Selected presenters will be informed before the end of April and papers should be submitted until June 11, 2009. Presentations of papers are limited to 20 minutes. The submission of papers for distribution only is possible when indicated so with the proposal. Speakers will be exempted from the conference fee.
