Brandon Research Fellowship in International Law 2018-2019 – Applications deadline: 19 March 2018

The Lauterpacht Centre for International Law is pleased to invite applications for the 2018-2019 Brandon Research Fellowship, which continues to be funded by generous gifts made by Mr Michael Brandon (1923-2012) in 2009 and by Mr Christopher Brandon in 2013.

The Brandon Research Fellowship is intended to cover a stay of at least 11 – 13 weeks at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law and has a maximum value of GBP 4,500; any additional travel or other expenses will be the responsibility of the selected Fellow. Awards will be made pro rata if a visit of less than 11 weeks is agreed to.  The Fellowship is tenable between October 2018 and September 2019.  Two awards may be made if the strength of the field warrants it.

LCIL provides a centre for research in Cambridge for legal practitioners and academics from around the world.  The Brandon Research Fellow will be welcomed as part of the community of visiting academics at LCIL and will undertake their own research project on some aspect of public or private international law or international arbitration.  Whilst the expectation is that candidates will pursue their own research project, should the successful applicant’s research project be within an area connected to an LCIL Fellows’ project or research activities, candidates may be invited to contribute or collaborate in those projects.  Information on requirements and eligibility can be found in the guidance notes below.

APPLICATION DEADLINE:  MONDAY 19 MARCH 2018

Applications should be submitted in accordance with the guidance notes and using the application form below. The application should consist of the following:

  • completed Application Form (including an outline of the proposed research);
  • a curriculum vitae (maximum four pages);
  • two letters of reference.

All documents should be prepared in English. Applications must be received by 19 March 2018. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Hasta el 30 de junio se pueden solicitar becas completas (cubren todos los gastos salvo los gastos de desplazamiento) para el «Encuentro: Las empresas Multilatinas y su Impacto en el Desarrollo de la Integración Iberoamericana», que se realizará en la Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo, Santander, 19, 20 y 21 de julio de 2017. Requisitos

  1. Estar matriculado en el curso académico 2016/2017 en estudios oficiales conducentes a la obtención de un título de Grado, Máster o Doctor en una Universidad española, o en cualquier otro estudio que equivalga a ellos; o
  2. haber finalizado los estudios universitarios a los que se refiere el apartado anterior con posterioridad a 31 de diciembre de 2012.
  3. En cualquiera de los casos descritos anteriormente, el solicitante deberá acreditar una nota media igual o superior a 6 (sobre base 10) en el expediente académico.

 Presentación de solicitudes y Documentos exigidos

Las solicitudes de becas se presentarán en la Secretaría de la Fundación Iberoamericana Empresarial (direccion@iberoamericanaempresarial.org), aportando los siguientes documentos:

  1. Carta motivando el interés en participar en el Encuentro
  2. Certificación académica personal completa, con expresión de la nota media en base 10
  3. Fotografía reciente, tamaño carnet
  4. Fotocopia del DNI o NIE

Plazo de solicitud

Hasta el día 30 de junio.

Criterios de selección y adjudicación de las becas

Los criterios de concesión de becas son:

  1. Nivel Académico del solicitante
  2. Nota media del Expediente Académico
  3. Carta de motivación

La Fundación Iberoamericana Empresarial evaluará las diferentes solicitudes y seleccionará a los beneficiarios de las becas teniendo en cuenta los requisitos generales establecidos y los criterios de selección y adjudicación previstos en la convocatoria. La resolución se notificará personalmente a los solicitantes en su dirección de correo electrónico.

 Obligaciones de los beneficiarios

Los beneficiarios están obligados a asistir a los cursos para los que se les ha concedido la beca, siendo necesario para que se les expida el Diploma que justifique como mínimo el 80% de las sesiones programadas. El incumplimiento de las anteriores obligaciones será causa de reintegro de la beca.

Se ha convocado la oferta de contratos predoctorales del año 2016. Se trata de las Ayudas para la formación de profesorado universitario en el marco del Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica y Técnica y de Innovación 2013-2016. Aquí está la convocatoria:

Los ciudadanos o residentes permanentes de un Estado miembro de la OEA, profesionales dedicados al derecho internacional y/o las relaciones internacionales menores de 40 años, pueden optar a una beca para el XLIII Curso de Derecho Internacional, coordinado por el Departamento de Derecho Internacional de la Secretaría de Asuntos Jurídicos de la Organización de los Estados Americanos, que tendrá lugar en Rio de Janeiro del 3 al 21 de octubre de 2016. The Lauterpacht Centre provides a centre for research in Cambridge for legal practitioners and academics from around the world. The Brandon Fellow will be welcomed as part of the community of visiting scholars at the Centre. While in Cambridge, visiting scholars have the opportunity to meet with other researchers in their field and are encouraged to participate fully in the activities of the Centre, including the Friday lectures and work in progress seminars. Visiting scholars have automatic access to the Centre’s Library and access by application to the University Library and the Faculty of Law’s Squire Law Library.

The Brandon Fellowship is intended to cover a stay of a minimum of one acceptance period (approximately 12 weeks) at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law and has a maximum value of £4,500; any additional travel or other expenses will be the responsibility of the selected Fellow.

The Brandon Fellow will undertake a project on some aspect of public or private international law or international arbitration while based at the Lauterpacht Centre. Candidates must specify a project in their application.

Candidates working in areas connected to LCIL fellows’ projects and activities are given particular consideration Fellows must produce a report of their work in English at the end of their Fellowship and deposit with the Lauterpacht Centre any publication resulting from the work undertaken during the Fellowship. The support received from the Brandon Research Fellowship at LCIL should also be acknowledged in the publication.

Candidates must be fluent in English and at least one of French, German or Spanish.

Preference will be given to candidates who are nationals of members of the European Union; members of the Commonwealth; Argentina; Brazil; Chile; China; Japan; Panama; Serbia; Switzerland; and the United States of America.

Preference will be given to candidates who do not have the means to come to the Centre, and who have not yet been to the Centre.

Applications from regions or countries underrepresented among former LCIL visiting fellows are particularly welcome.
